Eczema is a common childhood skin condition also known as atopic dermatitis, a chronic relapsing, itchy dermatitis. Infants and children are most frequently affected. The hallmark of eczema is intense itching and infants may sleep poorly due to itching. Eczema can be mild, moderate or extensive. Other skin conditions may resemble eczema therefore, accurate diagnosis is critical to successful treatment. Although eczema cannot be cured as yet, it can be well controlled if managed appropriately.
