Newborn care and checks

The birth of a much anticipated newborn baby brings joy and happiness to the parents and family. Adaptation to the new world for a baby is challenging and needs optimum care and support, more so, for babies born prematurely. Newborn babies are routinely examined shortly after birth by doctors or midwives and prior to going home.

Newborn and infants may need regular assessment and Dr Haque has many years of experience dealing with newborn and infant issues including but not limited to:

  • 6 weeks or earlier baby check
  • Unsettled or excessively crying babies
  • Prematurity
  • Reflux disorder (GOR)
  • Feeding problems
  • Poor weight gain, or failure to thrive
  • Hip dysplasia or developmental dysplasia of the hips (DDH)
  • Heart murmur
  • Growth and nutritional assessment
  • Developmental assessment
  • Cradle cap or Seborrhoeic dermatitis
  • Infantile eczema
  • Odd head shape, Plagiocephaly, Craniosynostosis
  • Cephalhaematoma
  • All other newborn problems
